Chef Mogau Seshoene aka The Lazy Makoti, left the corporate world in 2014 to pursue her love for food and preserving South African cuisine and heritage. What started out as lessons to help her friend, who was a “makoti” (newlywed bride or daughter-in-law) to learn how to cook a few traditional South African dishes to avoid being labelled a “lazy makoti”, has now evolved into a platform that offers a variety of services including cooking classes, food styling, recipe development and cooking demos.

In 2015, Seshoene was included on the M&G top 200 Young South Africa list, made Forbes Africa 30 under 30s and also hosted a series of TV shows and specials, such as Cooks For Life and The Lazy Makoti’s Christmas with Woolies, on satellite broadcasting channel Mzansi Magic. In 2016, she obtained her Culinary Arts qualification and has gone on to achieve significant milestones throughout her career.

Seshoene is one of the Brand South Africa’s Play your Part ambassadors and also a contributing food editor for grocery retailer, Woolworths’ Taste Magazine. Her own debut cookbook, The Lazy Makoti’s Guide to the Kitchen has been a roaring success outselling even Jamie Oliver in South Africa, according to Food24, to become a Best-Selling South African Cookbook of 2019 – 2020. Seshoene’s cookbook sold more than 25,000 copies and is going for its 10th reprint. In 2019, at the 24th International Gourmand Awards 2019 in Macau, the book was a winner in two categories: First Cookbook and Best Photography.
